United Independent Taxi was founded in July 1977, when 100 independently-licensed taxi drivers banded together to form their own taxi-for-hire operation. Because our owners and drivers are one and the same, we offer the highest levels of quality, courtesy and service across the board.

As a company created of, by and for taxi drivers, United Taxi has flourished under democratic, non-profit principles. Unlike our corporate competitors, we operate using bylaws based on a democratic system of checks and balances. A President, Vice President, Treasurer, Corporate Secretary and Board of Directors are periodically elected to carry out the agenda of the members, conduct daily operations and oversee all actions necessary to run a successful non-profit enterprise.

By following our charter closely, we have earned almost a quarter century's reputation for providing caring and professional service. Our attention to detail and high quality-of-service expectations have helped us grow tremendously — today, United Taxi has over 500 vehicles serving Greater Los Angeles Area — but we believe our success is primarily due to our democratic spirit. At United Taxi, we have the best service and lowest complaint ratio in the business because our service comes from the heart: Our drivers don't just represent the company; they own it.
